THE WORK
The most profound document you will ever write is the first draft of your memoir.
There is so much power in telling your story in your own words. This is why the first draft of your book is so special–it’s the only draft that is truly just for you. For the first draft, I advise my clients to write everything. Write it exactly how you remember it. Write how it felt to you. How it smelled to you. What you heard. What you saw. What you believe.
After that, we review the first draft and establish the most important themes within your story. Next, we determine which memories connect to a specific theme and which deserve more or less space within the book.
From there, we revise, revise, revise until we have a tight, cohesive, well-written narrative in your voice. I recommend this same process for all genres of writing that I work with, including non-fiction, historical fiction, and poetry. The results speak for themselves.
With a Ph.D. in writing, over ten years of teaching university writing courses, and five+ years of professional ghostwriting/ editing experience, I will help you craft and edit your memoir.
I pride myself on honoring the subject and maintaining your voice throughout the book. I understand how to write a compelling memoir that captures the complexities of your family history, career, relationships, and family dynamics. Together, we will create a beautiful story about your life that will be enjoyed for generations.
